Sub: Meeting on Export relates issues: (a) EU Directive for Herbal APIs (b) Nutraceuticals Exports & Issue of License by FSSAI 

We would like to inform all our member companies that Council is organizing a meeting with all the Herbal/Ayurveda/Nutraceutical exporters on 7th June 2013 at 11:00 am at Taj Deccan, Hyderabad to discuss the following important issues:

1) EU Directive for Herbal APIs and the requirement for written confirmation: Under the category of APIs, we understand EU Directive/requirement of Written Confirmation Certificate is also applicable for Herbal APIs (for ex: physlium husk) and botanicals used in medicines (effective from 2nd July 2013). Council is making efforts to move a paper with EU Government with the help of Department of Commerce in this regard.

2) Export of Nutraceuticals/Dietary Supplements and issues with FSSAI: Members may be aware, FSSAI is the authority for issuing the manufacturing licenses for Nutraceuticals and Free Sales Certificate and Certificate of Nutritional Products (CONP) for exports. Despite several requests from our member companies, FSSAI is not issuing the above licenses leading to stand still position in exports of Nutraceuticals. Council has represented the issue and DOC is exploring the possibilities of alternate certifying authority.

In view of the above important issues hampering Herbal/ayush exports and likely to have impact on its exports, we request all our member exporters dealing with traditional medicines to send their suggestions/inputs and actively participate in the meeting on 7th June 2013 at 11:00 am at Taj Deccan, Hyderabad.

We have also invited Senior Official form Department of Commerce to participate in the meeting and we would be discussing all these issues during the meeting.
