Subject: Request for Industry Inputs on India–SACU Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) Negotiations

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings from PHARMEXCIL.

The Terms of Reference for negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between India and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) were signed on 12 August 2026, and the first round of negotiations is expected to commence shortly.

The Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has requested stakeholder inputs to facilitate the formulation of India's negotiating positions.

In this regard, all PHARMEXCIL member companies are requested to submit their specific inputs, suggestions and recommendations concerning pharmaceutical exports to SACU countries, particularly on market access, tariff concessions, regulatory requirements, non-tariff barriers and other trade-related issues.

Members are requested to submit their inputs to PHARMEXCIL asap to enable timely consolidation and submission to the Department of Commerce.
