Members are kindly aware that the USA is the largest export destination for Indian pharmaceuticals and good no.of Indian companies have already established business operations in the USA. We are pleased to inform you that Pharmexcil in collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Commerce is organising a Virtual Investors Meet: Opportunity in South Carolina for Life Sciences cluster on Thursday, 10th June 2021, at 5:30 pm IST.  

 

The focus of the deliberations is to seek and establish business relationships with Indian companies who wish to establish their own operations in the US, i.e. manufacturing facilities, warehousing set up, logistics/distribution hub or a sales office.

Key strengths of South Carolina’s Life Sciences cluster include: -

 

  • A strong cluster of more than 650+ life-science related companies have operations in the state which includes Bausch & Lomb, Capsugel, GlaxoSmithKline, The Ritedose Corporation, Irix Pharmaceuticals, Perrigo and Patheon
  • South Carolina venture capital investment in the industry is also accelerating with over USD 12 billion economic impact employing about 45,000 people -- particularly targeted towards the categories of Drugs, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, and Equipment -- which represent a substantial portion of the life science industry in South Carolina directly tied to innovation.
  • The state offers connections to industry associations, universities operating in the Life Sciences sector such as Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Roper St. Francis Research & Innovation Center and Clemson University
  • Strategic east coast location, which includes the deep-water port of Charleston (second largest container port on the US Atlantic Coast), having over 30 marine carriers serving 150 countries
  • Low utility charges (average cost of electricity for industrial users is 6.05 cents per kilowatt hour, which is 12% below the US average)
  • Lowest private sector unionisation rate (1.3%) and Low state corporate tax rate (5%)
  • Comprehensive worker training for job creators at minimal or no cost through “readySC”, and “Apprenticeship Carolina” anchored by the South Carolina Technical Colleges
  • Presence of more than 1,200 international firms from 32 countries doing business in the state and employing 133,000 workers
