The delegation is proposed to visit these countries as an approved activity under the MAI activity of the Council. South Africa is the third largest destination for India's Pharmaceutical exports with USD 619 mn during the year 2018-19 after USA and UK, growing at 6% over the previous year. Tanzania is the fifth largest destination in Africa for India's Pharmaceutical exports with USD mn 162.08 during the year 2018-19 after South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda. The exports to these countries are showing growth and there is also a good scope for exploring these markets.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC)comprised of 16 countries (include South Africa and Tanzania) has formed a Pooled Procurement Arrangement for Pharmaceuticals for which Medical Stores Department (MSD) of Tanzania is identified as the nodal agency. Under this arrangement, SADC countries will place their orders for specific pharmaceutical products through MSD. (you may please refer Circular dt: 8th April 2019 proposing Business Delegation)
