Dear Sir/Madam,

Subject: Communication from DoC on difficulties while exporting to Japan-Acceptance of Rules of Origin Certificates (scanned copies) by the Japan Customs

We would like to inform member companies that Pharmexcil is in receipt of communication from the Department of Commerce FT (NEA) Division sharing the following information in view of the difficulties faced by the member companies exporting to Japan.

Some of the member companies have expressed difficulty in sending original BL, IJCEPA & other shipping documents to importers-customers in Japan.  In this regard, the Embassy of India at Japan has contacted the Japan customs authorities and it was shared that in the present situation scanned copies of the Rules of Origin certificates are being accepted and shipping companies have also been given information regarding the same.

With regard to BL, as per the information on JETRO's website, there are other options if a company is not able to produce original BL which are: i) Surrendered B/L; ii)Bank Letter of Guarantee; iii) Sea way bill and exporters may contact their shipping companies for the viable options.

Members are requested to kindly take note of the same.

With regards,

Uday Bhaskar
Director General
