An Update on Barcoding

To,

All the Members of Council,

Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to update the members as follows:

I. Uploading of Data on DAVA portal:

Please refer to our Circular dated 30th September 2015 on the above subject, wherein we have requested the members to inform us their issues / suggestions and status of implementation of DGFT Notification dated 22nd May 2015, so that Council can take up with the Government.  However, very few members (12 companies) have replied expressing their   problems in implementing the DGFT Notification and same were compiled and forwarded to Ministry.

Council has been following up with the Ministry for extension of time for uploading the data on DAVA portal.  In this connection, during a meeting  convened by Department of Commerce (where other govt agencies like GS1 and NIC)  on 20th October 2015, it is  informed that about 40 companies have confirmed their readiness, through ' Implementation Readiness Assessment Form ' (IRA form) uploaded in DAVA portal,  to comply with requirements of DGFT Notification.

In view of the above, Council has been asked to advise its members to fill up the above form, so that  a decision can be taken based on the data received from all exporters. We, therefore, request the members to visit   http://dava.gov.in/,  fill up the IRA  Form and send to dava-support@gov.in  (copy of the form is attached herewith for ready reference of members) immediately.

II.  Decision to Exempt Barcoding for products which are ' not registered as drugs'  in importing countries:

Based on requests from members, Council has made a representation asking for exemption of barcoding for products which are not registered as 'Drugs' in the importing countries.  We are happy to inform that the request has been considered favorably by the Government and a suitable amendment to the DGFT Notification  is likely to be issued soon. Such exemption will help  the members whose products are manufactured  as formulations / drugs under Drugs & Cosmetics Act in India, but registered  as  non drugs like Dietary supplements / food products / nutraceuticals etc., in the importing countries.

With regards,

Dr. P V Appaji
