As our members are aware, the Department of Pharmaceuticals has recently drafted a National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy, 2011 (NPPP-2011) with the view that the Drug Policy of 1994 needs modification in the context of changed global environment for industry as well required changes in the mechanism and to make available essential medicines to the masses. This draft policy is prepared basing on the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM)-2011 and interalia on the Task Force headed by Dr. Pronab Sen which submitted its report in September 2005
The objective is to put in place a regulatory framework for pricing of drugs so as to ensure availability of required medicines – “essential medicines” – at reasonable prices even while providing sufficient opportunity for innovation and competition to support the growth of industry, thereby meeting the goals of employment and shared economic well being for all.(links to the Policy Documents are provided in the Circular for your ready reference).
Council in this context received a communication from Department of Commerce, Govt. of India requesting comments/inputs on the Draft National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy, 2011 (NPPP-2011) immediately.
As this draft policy is likely to create an impact for the pharma industry both on domestic and export markets, we would request members to take note of this opportunity and offer your comments/inputs by 14th November 2011, for onward submission to Department of Commerce.
