BSM/Trade Delegation to

East European Countries

15-25th February 2015

To

All the Members of Council

Dear Sir/Madam,

We wish to inform the members that Council will be organizing BSM/Trade Delegation to Hungary, Czech Republic and Romania during 15-25th February 2015, as a part of export promotional activities under MDA scheme for 2014-15.  The countries have been selected based on recommendations from our embassies / export potential available in those countries:

Export Opportunities in the proposed countries:

v  Czech generic markets comprises of 34% of total market amounting to US$1.23 bn.  Present share of India's generic exports to about 12.06 mn $ (2013-14), amounting to 1%. Good scope for furthering the share.

v   In Romania, Generic drugs dominate the market by volumes to an extent of 75%.  It amounts to value of 983 mn.  It is expected to grow by CAGR of 7% up to 2018. FDIs are encouraged by Romanian Government. Acquiring local units will help in getting easy access to other European markets.  Present   India's exports are to the tune of US$ 27.50 mn  with less than 3% in the generic market of Romania

v   The generic market of Hungary in 2013 was worth US$ 863 mn, comprising of 34% of total market. Due to heavy price cuts imposed by Hungarian Govt., local companies are locking for business outside Hungary, leaving scope for Indian generics because of price advantage. Hungarian Govt. is also keen to come to an understanding on regularization of traditional medicines.

 Other Important factors for consideration:

v  These countries have the advantage of easier access to large EU market and easier access to other developed markets.

v  Mutual recognition Law Facilitates easier access to other EU markets and other western markets including USA.

v  Cost of operation in these countries is lower in comparison to most of the EU nations hence easier to export to other EU nations.

v  Chinese companies are also looking to base their European operations in these countries take advantage of the mutual recognition law and thereby easy access for their products.

v  Government of India also encourages strategic investments for enhancing India's exporters' market reach.

In view of the above, we advise members, particularly those who are aspiring to increase their market share in Europe & CIS markets, to take part in this important BSM/Trade delegation.
