Subject: Delegation to Beijing, China: First meeting of “Working Group on Pharmaceuticals” lead by Department of Pharmaceuticals during 7-9^th May 2019

We are glad to inform that a high-level delegation from Department of Pharma focused to Pharmaceuticals, as part of “Working Group Meeting” formed under India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) Mechanism, is planned during 7-9^th May 2019 at Beijing, China. The delegation will be led by Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.

You are kindly aware that the export of Pharmaceuticals from India to China during 2017-18 is USD 200.02 mn with a growth rate of 37.52 against USD 145.45 mn during 2016-17. There is a need for strengthening our exports to China and also to reduce import dependence from China, which could be achieved with regular trade and bilateral discussions.

Pharmaceuticals is at the centre stage of these dialogues with the removal of import tariffs on Oncology drugs and few others areas. Towards this direction, Hon'ble Prime Minister during his recent visit to China has taken up the issue of the trade imbalance with the Chinese side and discussed regarding prospects for export of Pharmaceuticals from India side.

In this context, the Working Group meeting is scheduled for 7^th May 2019 followed by the delegation will be visiting API plants/industry and interaction with API manufacturers and trade associations on 8^th and 9^th May 2019.

Member companies interested to join the delegation are requested to confirm your participation/interest for the joining the delegation by 26th April 2019 for communicating with Department of Pharmaceuticals accordingly.
